Drawfee is a YouTube channel that focuses on taking viewer's suggestions and drawing them. The show has four hosts: Nathan Yaffe, Jacob Andrews, Julia Lepetit, and Karina Farek. The hosts are all professional illustrators, all former employees for CollegeHumor and associated companies.
It started January 2014 as a Facebook show called "Morning Drawfee" as the hosts, CollegeHumor illustrators Caldwell Tanner and Nathan Yaffe, used the show to warm up for the day's work. It then became more popular than expected and was transformed into it's own thing, gaining its own YouTube channel in March 2014.
Shortly after Drawfee became its own thing, they started featuring other artists from CollegeHumor and Dorkly. This is were the hosts Jacob and Julia come into the picture. Caldwell ended up leaving CollegeHumor as he went to work on storyboards for the Disney Channel series Big City Greens. In 2018, Julia and Jacob became part of the Drawfee crew full-time. Karina was featured as a guest in 2017 and after landing a job at CollegeHumor, she was invited to guest on Drawfee once again. Due to her popularity, she became a full-time member of the crew in 2019.
Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, in January 2020, just about every employee under CollegeHumor, Dorkly, and Dropout had been laid off as a result of the main company getting sold, causing many people to lose their jobs. Drawfee was included in this lay-off. Thankfully, they had amassed quite a large audience by the time this had happened, so they were able to officially go completely indepedent in July 2020. They receive funding through Patreon, sales from their merch store, and ad revenue.
Since then, they've launched their own Twitch channel, where they stream every monday, attended a few conventions, and even hosted three live shows in Seattle.
